‘Where is Here’ – Downtown Courtenay Video Walk-About and Mapping Project – March 5th

We’re pretty excited about this message we got from the CVAG’s Sharon Karsten a few days ago: “…created another project, inspired by that one, aimed to get people talking about ‘what connects them to their community’ within Courtenay’s downtown core. This project is called ‘where is here’ … and takes Comox Valley residents on a walk-about of the downtown (within a 15-minute walking radius of CVAG) to chat on-video about their feelings of community connection. The videos taken on this ‘walk-about’ are then uploaded to an online map that is made public. The hope is that these videos generate more videos and interest, and that we spark a full-blown conversation around the ‘intangible’ and ‘cultural’ dimensions of the downtown core that is of use in a variety of contexts – including in the empowerment of residents to own their collective future. The project is a partnership between VIU, CVAG, the City of Courtenay and DCBIA See http://www.whereishereculturalmapping.com and https://www.facebook.com/whereishereculturalmapping for more.” This Saturday (March 5th) we will be walking and talking about one of our favourite businesses in downtown Courtenay – The Broken Spoke. Not only is The Broken Spoke a client of Pod Creative, but owners Mike and Tomiko are good friends of our family. Apart from our obvious bias, The Broken Spoke has been extremely supportive of some of our personal ventures in the past, from participating in Car Free Sunday to collaborating on the creation of a Comox Valley Bicycle...

In 2015 the Greens will save Canada – Elizabeth May

Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party, recently addressed a room full of supporters at the Maritime Heritage Centre in Campbell River during her “Rock the Boat” event. The video below shows Sue Moen, CEO of the North Island Powell River Green Party Association, opening for Elizabeth in front of a very supportive crowd.   During her inspirational talk, Elizabeth May boldly stated that: “In 2011 we made history. In 2015  we’re saving Canada.” The crowd strongly agreed. *Click on the image to view this post on the North Island – Powell River Green Website  ...

Greetings from Elevate 2015!

Greetings Elevate Friends and Collaborators. Happy 2015! We’re sending off a quick message to you all to make sure you have the dates for our 2015 event on your radar. The 4th annual Elevate Festival will take place June 3–7 2015. Building on the super fun times we’re had the first 3 years, we will be co-creating a variety of elevating events Wed-Fri and then presenting a FREE full day urban street festival in Downtown Courtenay on Saturday the 6th. This year we’re also excited to be deepening our collaboration with Imagine Comox Valley and look forward to working together to link “Go Smart Day” with our 2015 event on Sunday June 7th. “Go Smart Day” is all about re-thinking and re-imagining transportation and use of public space in the Comox Valley and on the planet. What a perfect partnership! Projects, partnerships and events are already brewing in the Elevate laboratories. The themes of exploration, experimentation, breaking barriers, urban reclamation and community building across generations stand. We have also started to build some programming around the theme of “REFLECTION” and invite you to embrace this theme as well. We would love to talk to you about being involved with Elevate 2015. Whether you are a programming partner, a sponsor, a venue, a project champion, a volunteer, a media partner or a cheerleader you are part of the magic that IS Elevate. Let’s talk! We’ll be updating through our e-newsletter and through our FACEBOOK PAGE in the weeks to come. We have some great events coming up, and we’ll be doing some calls for lead volunteers. Make sure you sign up for our...
