Friends and music lovers from across the Comox Valley are warmly invited to Cumberland for the annual musical fundraiser “Food. Shelter. Music” for local emergency shelters – Lilli House/Transition Society and the Salvation Army Shelter. Come and be part of a very special evening this Friday December 14th at the Waverley Hotel when friends old and new play music from 8 pm till close all in the spirit of helping those most in need at Christmas.
This annual event is a grassroots effort of local musicians who come together each December to make a difference. Musicians know this better than many – the Christmas season isn’t merry for everyone. Many who struggle with mental health, addictions, poverty, family disconnect and insecure housing suffer at this time of year. The pressures of the holiday season effect everyone, but for some – the pressures can be insurmountable.
This musical evening is all about sharing some love and kindness and generosity (as much as each of us can) with others. Bring your friends and bring some cash or some food or toiletries (diapers, feminine hygiene products, razors, soaps, deodorant, shampoos). The focus is on how we can come together as community and be sure that folks don’t get lost in the hustle and bustle of an emotionally, financially and spiritually demanding time of year. There is no cover charge and no obligation – share what you can!
Performers confirmed so far include Mary Murphy, Jilli Martini, Blaine Dunaway, Paisley Bandits, Brodie Dawson, Jack Roland and Archie Pateman, Annie Becker, Bobby Herron, Dukes of Dodge, Corwin Fox, Helen Austin, Pamela Tessmann, Fiftieth Parallel and many more. The evening will include some special musical surprises and a whole love of love and good cheer.
