Getting started with creating content can be a challenge!

Getting started on your content creation journey can be tough! Heck, it’s tough even to know where to begin. Let’s see if we can help with that.

Why Content?

Content is the lifeblood of the internet. Without content your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Newspapers, and more would be completely empty. That’s all content! We even wrote an entire blog post about what Content Marketing is and why you should do it!

What is content?

Great question! Along that same line, we will talk about blogging too.

A blog is a web page where an individual, business, group, or organization shares information. This information could be personal opinions, how-to posts, news and events, and so much more.

Content is the all-encompassing term for this kind of information and it can be written, images, videos, and more! We believe in using a variety of content, like mixing a how-to video with written instructions or creating a helpful infographic. Variety is the spice of life after all!

Take us here at Pod Creative, for example, we create all kinds of content. News pieces, service updates, how-to videos, written instructions, reviews, infographics, ect. We create these varied types of content to 1) attract more website visits, 2) help raise our website organically in the search engine rankings, 3) find more clients, and 4) help our existing clients! We aim to make our content accessible to as many people as we possibly can. We’ve received a lot of feedback from our clients on our how-to posts, and strive to empower as many people as possible.

Make sure to read this part

Our #1 top tip we give our clients is your content doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does need to be authentic. Not the overused buzzword authentic, it needs to be authentic to you as a person and to your business. If you run a plumbing business you should not be posting content on your business website about the latest fashion trends in Paris. Keep it relevant! Write about what you know.

Top Tips to get started

One of the first pieces of advice we give our to clients is your first attempt doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s a first attempt! Take the pressure off yourself and have fun with it. And hey, if you can’t stand it, delete it or re-do it!

The second piece of advice is: when you sit down to brainstorm content ideas to think of them from the perspective of a client. What would a client, or a potential client, ask? What kind of information can you offer a client, or a human in general, that might help them? Take all of the posts we create as an example. We hold team brainstorming questions and talk through all the questions and comments our clients make. A lot of our post ideas come from things our clients routinely ask us!  If you can’t think of anything read through your emails and look for clues, what themes or questions pop up regularly? What are some of your most Frequently Asked Questions? If you have a frequently asked questions page on your site start expanding on those! Even something as simple as “How does (insert company name here) take payment?”

The third piece of advice, whilst perhaps a bit cheesy, still stands. Go slow and write about what you know. Getting started can be tough, especially if it’s just you! If you’re not sure where to start ask a friend or family member, they might have some great insight.

Thoughts

Getting started on your content creation journey can be daunting but it’s worth it! Start writing about what you know, and really think about the topics from the perspective of your clients. If you’re stuck for content try writing about the topics you get asked about all the time!
